MP: Foreign Ministry must follow up chemical injured victimsˈ file

Mahabad, West Azarbaijan, June 28, IRNA – Member of parliament from cities of Piranshahr and Sardasht said that Foreign Ministry should follow up seriously dossier of chemical injured victims in international tribunal and community.



On the occasion of the anniversary of chemical bombardment of Sardasht City on Saturday, Rasoul Khezri said that unfortunately in spite of passing 27 years from the chemical bombardment of Sardasht by Baˈathist regime of the ousted dictaror, Saddam Hussein, no serious follow up has been made in international tribunals, yet.

He reminded that the Iranian people have been victims of the international terrorism and added that the residents of Sardasht expected that the Foreign Ministry should dispatch documents of this criminal act to the Hague Court.

Khezri continued that if the horrible crimes of the Baˈathist regime of Iraq had initially faced the serious reaction of the international community, may be the crime of Halabche had never happened.

The MP said that in the chemical bombardment on June 28, 1987 more than eight thousand people were injured and 119 persons died.

He called Sardasht as the first defenseless and civil city in the world which became a victim of the chemical arsenals and proposed that the city should be introduced as ˈThe Peace Cityˈ in the world.

Sardasht city is the first victim of the chemical weapons in the world after the atomic bombardment of Hiroshima city in Japan.

The city has population of 111 thousand residents and is located 250 kilometers to the south of Oroumiyyeh, the capital city of West Azarbaijan province of Iran, and on the Iraqi side of the Iran-Iraq border
